About CIS
Canberra Islamic School (CIS) has been successfully running in Canberra since 1974 – that is nearly 50 years! The classes are held every Sunday during the ACT school term between 10am-1:15pm at CIC Monash. Previously (until August 2019), classes were being held at the Canberra Masjid.
The school has been running successfully, Alhamdullilah, through the cooperation of the Muslim community of Canberra.
Admissions are open in the first week of each Term. Please note that your child has to have started kindergarten to start Level 1 at CIS.
Vision
To impart Islamic values in the life of the Muslim youth of the ACT region.
Mission
To provide a social and educational setting to spend time with other Muslim children of their age group and a means to learn and practice Islam and develop the urge to learn more (independently) by:
Teaching Islam according to the Quran and Sunnah.
Teaching Arabic to equip students with the skills to read the Quran.
Teaching Quran – to enable students to understand what is recited.
Teaching Islamic manners and etiquette.
Encouraging the practice of Islam in daily life.
Understanding that humanity is One, Allah is One and the same for all mankind – Muslim and non-Muslim.

School Timings
Parents are expected to bring their children to school in time for Assembly at 10:00am and join us for Dhuhr prayer (1:10pm during Daylight Saving Time and 1:00pm during Winter Time). Child supervision is not available after or before school hours and not the responsibility of staff.
It is the responsibility of the parents to make the proper transportation arrangements to transport their children to and from school.
In case of any absence, the student is expected to approach the teacher to find out all of the missed assignments and to arrange possible make ups.
In case of emergencies, parents can find out about school cancellation through any one of the teacher contacts and on the website.

The schools schedule and important dates for 2024 is below. Note the following:
CIS DOES NOT CLOSE DOWN during Ramadhan. In fact, the school considers the continuation of classes during Ramadhan of paramount importance and aligns the class content accordingly.
